A baby's first Lohri is one of the most photographed moments in a Punjabi family's life. This collection is curated for the winter bonfire festival (January 13) — coordinated Complete Pehrawa and Morni Chandra Kudta Chadra pieces, sized for newborns through young kids, in colours that photograph well around the bonfire.
Lohri is a winter festival, so warmth matters. Our pieces are full-sleeve and high-neck, with the soft Giza Cotton sitting comfortably under a light jacket if needed. For diaspora families celebrating in Canada, US, or UK in January, this matters — the celebration often happens outdoors in the cold.
Sizing for a Baby's First Lohri
For first Lohri, most families are buying for a newborn (0-12 months) or toddler (12-24 months). Both sizes are at our base age tier — no surcharge. Our Bathinda workshop hand-stitches infant sizes on a case-by-case basis, so message Veerpal on WhatsApp with the baby's height, weight, and any specific measurements before ordering. We typically ask for chest, head circumference, and length from shoulder to knee.
For older siblings being dressed in matching Lohri outfits, see our sibling matching outfit collection — coordinate the colour palette across multiple kids in one order.
When to Order for Lohri
Order by mid-December latest. Holiday-season transit can be slower — North American couriers slow down significantly between mid-December and January 5. Total order-to-delivery is 2-4 weeks; for early January delivery, place the order in late November or first week of December.
Pre-order options for a future Lohri: many families place orders for the next year's Lohri immediately after a baby is born, since the workshop has slower production windows in May-July. Message Veerpal on WhatsApp to discuss pre-orders.
Frequently Asked Questions
- Will the outfit be warm enough for an outdoor January Lohri in Canada?
- The Giza Cotton kurta is breathable, not insulating. For an outdoor cold-weather celebration, plan to layer with a thin jacket or coat over the outfit for the bonfire portion, removing it for photographs. Many families do exactly this.
- Can I get Gurmukhi name embroidery for the baby's name?
- Yes — included at no extra cost. Spell out the baby's name in Gurmukhi or English and we'll embroider it on the kurta back or sleeve. See our Gurmukhi name embroidery guide for examples.
- What if the baby grows out of the size between order and delivery?
- Babies grow fast — for very young babies, we sometimes recommend ordering a slightly larger size and rolling/folding for the first wear. The piece can then fit through subsequent occasions. Our sizing-up guide covers this approach.
