A Gurpurab — from Gur (Guru) and purab (a sacred day) — marks the birth or another milestone of one of the Sikh Gurus. Several fall across the year, but the two the whole community gathers for are Guru Nanak Dev Ji's Gurpurab, his Prakash Purab (ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸ਼ ਪੁਰਬ, "day of light"), and Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Gurpurab.

Guru Gobind Singh Ji's Prakash Purab follows in winter, around December or January.
